THE UNDENIABLE POWER OF BEING VULNERABLE WITH GOD

One of our deepest desires, and valid needs, as human beings is to be known and seen. We long to have someone look at us, know every nook and cranny of our hearts, and at the end of the day still love every part of us. This is the way we were designed by God; for intimacy. I like to say that intimacy is “into me you see,” because that’s just what it is—an uncovered heart, free from fear and fully seen. But most of us don’t actually live this way, and we’re missing out on the power of true vulnerability with God.
UNCOVERING OUR HIDDENNESS
In prayer, we don’t always have honest conversations with God.
I find that we’re afraid of what He may see if we’re truly open, so we cover up the things that are messy or scary to look at. But today I want to encourage you with this thought: vulnerability with God is a powerful practice that can actually help move your soul out of chaos and into holiness.

In a nutshell:
- David said to God, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” (Psalm 139:23)
- God relegates His all-knowingness to our will when it comes to knowing us. He wants to know us, but He’s waiting for us to invite Him in so that He can see what’s going on in our hearts.
- Most of us are starving for God to know us, but we’re also terrified of what He’s going to see when He gets inside our hearts.
- When God speaks, He creates. So when He talks to us and counsels us, He creates grace with His words.
- If we open our hearts and will for God to know us, He will take the things that trouble us and turn the chaos in our hearts to order.
- Wherever God goes, holiness follows. Therefore, vulnerability with God will actually empower us out of sin and into holiness.
TAKEAWAY FOR THE WEEK
So, today I want to encourage you to start your week off with some open and honest conversations with God. Take some time to pray, and challenge yourself right now to push past the discomfort of vulnerability. I want to exhort you to throw off the coverings of shame that you may be clinging to and exchange them for the comfort I know you will find in God’s words. I believe that if we start every day off by allowing God to search and know our hearts, His words of life will empower us into more freedom to be ourselves. Furthermore, I believe that practicing this with God will help us to practice it with our loved ones, which will lead to an even more fulfilled life!
