INSPIRED THINKING AND WHY IT IS THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEMS

THE POWER OF A THOUGHT


Have you ever considered the power of one thought? Just think of the airplane, it was built from a dream to fly... or think of slavery, it was fought against because a world without it could be visualized. The list is endless, but isn’t it obvious we were made to climb above the static thoughts in our minds? Imagination and inspiration were woven in the womb and built-in our bones; we were designed to inspire the solutions and inventions of our time. 

The truth is, we have access to divine solutions because we are sons and daughters of God. Yet, I recently became aware of my lack of inspired thinking. Now, this is highly unusual for me. I normally have to shut my brain off because I could dream up a million ideas before the day is done. I know for some people having endless ideas and dreams is not a common theme in your life. However, I’d propose that when you build the muscle of inspired thinking in your mind it’s like muscle memory. It makes it easier to exercise the God-given ideas and catalyzes them into motion in your life. 

Have you ever been on a journey that has led you to a dead-end road? Uncertain of where to go, you end up right back on the road to home — it can feel defeating and discouraging. The truth is we often face problems in life that feel like they have led us to a dead-end. Problems beyond our knowledge and expertise land in our lap, our neighborhood, and our homes. The challenge is, the issues you face can keep you from acting if you allow the voice of intimidation and discouragement to take up more space than the voice of hope and life in your mind. Discouragement and intimidation keep you stagnant and unresponsive; chained to the “impossible” of the issue and unable to find the solutions that live inside of you, as the royal son or daughter of Christ. 

Let me be clear, I have faced many problems that have led me to my end; ones that have truly intimidated and discouraged me. But the truth is there is never a dead end with the Lord. We don’t need to be the most intelligent or have it all figured out. Often the moment we come to the end of our own ability is the very moment we then experience divine connection. When you allow the Holy Spirit to enter into the room of our mind you will receive solutions and answers beyond your own ability. 

I’d propose that in order to find the solution to a problem you must be able to see the potential of a world without it. If you are stuck in the pit of discouragement and tangled in lies that things will never change, I want to encourage you to begin to ask the Holy Spirit what it would look like if the problem was solved. Ask the Holy Spirit direct questions like, “What would it look like if every child had a loving home and warm bed?” Or, “What would it feel like if racism was eradicated and inequality was eliminated?” “What would my city be like if crime decreased and the homeless had homes?” Then begin to ask the Holy Spirit to show you the steps to reach the solution. Close your eyes and imagine the very steps it took to get to the solution that the Holy Spirit showed you on the screen of your sanctified mind. 


ATTENTION SEEKERS AND INSPIRATION STEALERS


We live in a world with countless attention seekers and motivation stealers that turn off our brains to inspired thinking and snooze it to the impossible. It might seem obvious that our attention is valuable; we are continuously surrounded by attention-grabbers. If you are like most people you are aware of the television to name just one — trust me I wish the T.V. didn’t cause a clicked-off mind. However, as I recently noticed the lack of inspired thoughts in my life, I began to recount what has filled my free-thinking time. This led me to recount many more attention seekers in our lives such as the news, social media, and video games. Let me be clear, these avenues of entertainment are not evil or wrong but they have the ability to place our thoughts in a race car and speed away. In just a moment we hand over control and let entertainment tell us what lane to think on. 


When you feel you’ve been in an inspiration drought, it’s time to become aware of what is leading your mind. Have you thrown your thoughts in the race car that sped away or are you asking the Holy Spirit to play out the scene across the screen of your mind? I want to encourage you to begin to ask the Holy Spirit what it would look like if the problem was resolved. If you then still feel like inspiration and imagination are dormant, the Bible is filled with sparks for inspiration. I want to challenge you to sit down with a story in the Bible and as you read across the pages, imagine you are sitting at the feet of the author as they recount their story. Is their voice shaky, do they laugh or maybe cry as they read? As you read, put yourself on the scene; imagine the sounds and feelings of the jail cell that Paul wrote Ephesians in. After I began reading the Bible like this I never read it the same again. It was an imagination exercise that became second nature when I would read. After years of reading my Bible like this, it paved a highway for inspiration and imagination in my brain. The stories and verses I had heard and read a thousand times became life to me as they began to move deeper than the words on the pages and touched my heart. 


My prayer for you today is that if you have found yourself stagnant or discouraged on your journey with the Lord that you would begin to have remarkable ideas. I pray that the Holy Spirit begins to speak to you about solutions and the possibilities in your life.

In recent weeks, a resounding message has been echoing in my heart and mind: January is the Church's halftime! Our divine Coach is calling us to the huddle, to draw close, and let Him fine-tune our game plan – our values, thoughts, and behaviors. Amid the noise, He's inviting us to step away, knowing that leaning into these divine moments will catapult us into the second half, ready for victory. And in this game, we already know the final score – He wins!
